nextstop london

I expect to posting but rarely for the next week. But for you guys, that is a good thing. It means I will be headed across the Atlantic and straight to the UK  Gatwick airport.

I leave for London on Thursday and will need a day or two to recover and put myself back together. Also to find a converter so that I won’t blow this baby that I type my posts on for you.

Before then, it’s going to be packing and doing things with family. I had forgotten how your time is not your own when you actually are with your family.

This weekend, we’re headed down to the eastern shore of Maryland to see my dad’s parents. Pretty excited about crabs for lunch tomorrow.

Location:
My dad is en route to Orlando right now. Tonight, we will load all of my belongings up and drive to Maryland. The goods will then be stashed at my parents’ and a select group of belongings will travel across the Atlantic with me.

Visa:
Issued and traveling down from Chicago. It shall break its journey and take a Sabbath on Sunday, resuming its journey on Monday.

Hopefully, it shall land in my good landlady’s hands then have to turn right around again and find its way to me in Maryland.

Flight:
Hope to purchase on in the next day or two. Plan to leave September 3.

My towel actually stayed neatly folded, because despite the sweltering heat, the water was quickly quite cold. So I read a book instead.

It’s my last week in Florida. Next week, I’m off to my parents’ in Maryland before I’m to fly to London on September 3.

Things I have done this week:
Attended a 5 day, virtually 8-to-8 translation and linguistics course, which ended today. Tried to use paint to fix a picture (true story; see previous item). Scurried around for hours trying to send off my visa application. Over-nighted my visa application to Chicago. Met some really cool new people. Tried to cut class with a friend of mine, only to be thwarted, unknowingly on their part, though.

Things I shall do this next week:
Sell my car, Lord willing. See my friends in town for a final [12 month] adieu. Pack up my stuff, once again. Raise $1000 more support. Finish sending out thank-you notes.

Things I have thought:
I really miss tutoring my student-athletes. I am really going to miss everyone at Wycliffe. I’m seriously wondering if I’ll get my visa in time to leave September 3.

[appearing simultaneously from Philosophizings]

Well this whole London thing had better work out, because I’m fully commited now. I’ve been spiritually, personally, mentally commited for quite a while, but now I’m circumstantially on the line for it.

I’ve quit my job at Wycliffe. Yesterday was my last day. I wasn’t really sad, mostly just resigned. I am choosing to do this, and I’m happy to do this. So I sort of feel like I shouldn’t be too sad. But man, I am sorry to leave. I’m going to miss my access badge and Kathy, my co-worker.

I went to the bank yesterday on a quick errand and ended up staying and hour and doing some paperwork. Then I realized how in upheaval my life looks (or is).

–  Current address- been here less than three months, sketchy rent situation
–  Permanent address- hmm, I’ll get back to you
–  Current employment- um, I just quit, but I can give you the details
–  Phone number- well you can use this one for the next three weeks…

Yup, we’re forging on. Oh, and  I’m selling a ’95 Honda Civic sans air conditioning for a bargain price. Let me know if you’re interested.

I’m hoping to send in my visa application today, as long as I have all the necessary appendages. My biometrics (fingerprinting) appointment wasn’t until yesterday, so I just completed that portion. Now, I’ll make sure I have everything and send it overnight-certified-call-me-when-you-get-it-to Chicago.

Wish me luck with all this! If you need me, I’ll be taking a linguistics class at Wycliffe all week and  then in Orlando for another week after that. Then it’s off to Maryland for a week and a half with my parents.
